This is first step to start container gardening. Container gardening starts with selection of plant that we want to grow in a container. And if we focus in plants then we found that each types of plants growth affected by the local area environment.
Means the Environmental factor always affect the plant growth so before we are planning to grow any plant we must understand the environmental requirement of that particular plant. It is important to understand that how these environment factors affect plant growth and its development.
And this environment factor may include:
Sun Light requirement
Temperature or season
Water Requirement
Humidity requirement etc…..
So as a first step we should always take a study of all above requirements when we are selecting a plant for container gardening and after a quick study we should always select a plant that can be most suitable for growing in a container.

Selecting the best pots for container gardening

This is the second step of container gardening. After selecting a suitable plant we should always select a best container that can provide a suitable environment to a particular plant that we are planning to grow in a container.
Always remember that each plant have their unique level of growth like some plants required more wider and deeper space to grow well and some plants can grow in a small space too.
So we must consider this point before selecting a container or pot for any plant because the container size is matters. If we choose a small container then may be our plant’s roots can cover it soon and become root bound and the soil not hold enough moisture.
And in other hand if we select a big size container as compare to plant size then plants will lost all of their energy on Root development and not get enough growth.

And After considering the container size we should check that the container should always have sufficient and proper size drainage hole at the bottom of it. Always remember that if we use a container without having drainage holes than the excess water will not drain out from it and root rotting problem will start that can easily damage our plants. So if the drainage holes are not available then we can make it also.

Preparation the best soil for container gardening

Perfect soil preparation is the third step of container gardening. For container gardening the soil works like a heart. So we should always select or prepare the soil mixer that should have these two qualities:-

First, the soil should have the capacity to drain water quickly. Means at the time of
Watering the water should not accumulate inside the soil for more time.
Always remember that if soil will not drain water quickly then our plants root will start
damage by root rot problem and other fungus disease.

Second, the soil should have capacity to hold the moisture for a long time so that it will not require to do watering frequent.
Always remember that if moisture will not retain by soil then our plant will not survive for a long time as it need to required more frequent watering that we cannot manage while doing container gardening

So at the time of soil selection or preparation, we must remind above two points so that our plant can grow well.
Also at the time of soil preparation, we must add some fertilizer or compost so that the plant can get all required nutrient at the time of initial growth.
